WIWS, at long last, and upcoming Church Tour!

This has been the weekend of barbecues.

Yesterday we went to one up on the North Side, hosted by an old teacher of mine. On the way there, Frank said, "Let's just stay for an hour, ok?" because we were both pretty tired. But we had such a good time we ended up staying for almost four! One of the best/craziest things about being back in Chicago is the fun of reconnecting with old classmates ... and their husbands ... and their babies!

Frank especially liked hearing stories from a priest who used to be chaplain for the Chicago Bears. Did you know most professional sports teams have chaplains? I had no idea. Father had great stories to tell about the many amazing players and coaches he met.

I finally bought a chambray shirt from Old Navy... I had been wanting one forever! I love this trend ... even if it took me forever to jump on it. It works perfectly to make a dress look like a skirt and create many more outfit combos.

Today, Frank and I went to a young adult barbecue at our new parish.

Have I told you about this church yet? Oh, how we love it. I can't even begin to tell you. First of all, it's gorgeous (Frank says it's the prettiest church in Chicago). The services are so reverent—think incense, candles, and using the communion rail for every Mass (yes, I know that's not everyone's jam, but we kinda like it). The homilies are intellectually rigorous (St. Augustine and Thomas Aquinas, etc., are often quoted) yet accessible and interesting. And on top of all that, it's five minutes from our house! We think it's pretty much the Holy Grail of parishes and we officially registered as parishioners today.

Now, the one downside to this church is that the congregation is pretty small and there aren't a lot of young adults. But luckily they've been working to develop their Young Adult ministry, hence the barbecue today. We met a few nice people, and we're really looking forward to the Church Tour coming up on September 29. Chicago friends, interested in joining Frank and me for it? We would love to have you come!

Now we are home and Frank is finishing up his fantasy football draft, aka The Biggest Day of the Year in his book. ;) How was your Sunday? Hope it was great!

*p.s. Don't worry, I didn't wear the flip-flops to Mass.

  2. That parish sounds wonderful. We have a similar kind of parish, though ours is full of young couples. The thing is that most of them are young couples with at least one child already. We still find ourselves in the awkward in-between group and run on a very different schedule than the others. But when we are able to step into the young married with a baby group, it's good to know that there are so many great people waiting.

  3. I think I've said it before, but that tablecloth in the background is so, so cute!

And, okay, you're looking pretty cute yourself too! :)

P.S. I really, really fell in love with chambray shirts when I started nursing and none of my dresses would zip up anymore. At least not while remaining modest in any form or fashion. But throw on some chambray and no one is the wiser!
