How I Store My Scarves

I've amassed quite a scarf collection over the years, buying new ones everywhere from Jerusalem to the local H&M.

In my old place I kept them on command hooks in my bedroom, but I don't have space for that in the new house, and I wanted something a little more organized.

I began by doing research online and showed this article to Frank. It was our inspiration, but we wanted something sturdier than a tension rod and better-looking. On a recent trip to Ikea, we found the perfect thing.

The Ikea Grundtal rail. They're designed for hanging kitchen tools but Frank suggested we use them for the scarves, and they work perfectly. They come in 3 sizes and the price range is $6.99 to $9.99 - affordable on any budget!

What you'll need to install your own scarf rail:
  • One Grundtal rail from Ikea, any size
  • Screws (not included)
  • A drill or a screwdriver
  • About 20 minutes of installation time

Frank installed them with a drill, but you can also use just a screwdriver. All the pieces come in the store-bought kit except the screws, which you can buy anywhere. If you do use a screwdriver, you'll want to make a hole first with a nail so the screw has a place to go.

Extra tips:
  • Make sure the rail is level. You can do this by measuring from the floor or ceiling at either end, or by using a level.
  • You can't order this item online, so the trip to Ikea for materials could add a decent amount to your installation time. Try to go when you have time to browse for a while and get food at the Ikea restaurant (yum!).
  • If you're like me and like knowing exactly where things are in the store, you can cut to the chase and find the Grundtal rail in the kitchen storage section.

My scarf rail turned out so nicely that my roommate Colleen decided she wanted one for her room, too. She bought two of them, one for scarves and one for belts, and Frank put them up for her. If you decide to store belts, you can get little hooks for the Grundtal rails at Ikea.

This post isn't sponsored by Ikea - it's just something I've found incredibly useful. My scarf collection looks all grown up now! I love this storage solution and hope you find it helpful too.

  1. Thanks for sharing this idea! I keep my scarves in a drawer but this way the scarves act as decoration as well - so beautiful! xx
