My twin sister Lillian reads my blog religiously, but the rest of my family doesn't. Actually, I think most of them didn't even register that I had a blog until maybe a few months ago.
Every now and then, I tell a story to try and convince them of the awesomeness of blogging. Like how I met Giedre and Kathryn and Lyndsey through it. Their reactions range from total disinterest to shock that nice, normal people actually read this thing!
Here are a few of the responses I've gotten from them about my blog:
Caroline: So I looked at your blog the other day.
Me: Oh yeah? Did you like it?
Her: Um... you write about REALLY personal stuff. It's kind of weird.
My 12-year-old brother: I've been reading your blog.
Me: Great! What do you think?
Him: Please stop writing about pelvic pain... Seriously.
That cracked me up! Sorry, buddy, I guess this blog is not exactly aimed at the 12-year-old male demographic!
Does your family read your blog? Or are they like mine and think you're kind of crazy for blogging?
And if you want to comment and say hi to my little brother, who apparently reads here now, I'm sure he'd appreciate it. :p
Hi, Tess' Family!! :-)
ReplyDeleteMy family does read my blog, but that sometimes backfires on me. :P Actually, I don't think my parents would if I didn't have the option of blog posts emailed to your inbox on the blog. Otherwise, I know that the only reason why some of them have Bloglovin' or blogger is so that they can follow my blog. I even have Aunts, Uncles, & cousins who read my blog! My family rarely-if-ever comments (except sometimes in real life), but I know they're reading.

ReplyDeleteHi Tess -- just got directed to your blog, and wanted to say good luck with the rest of your pregnancy! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah!! It's so nice to hear from you! Hope everything is going well!
DeleteHello, Tess!
ReplyDeleteMy family reads my blog (although it's not really much of anything yet). Like Sarah Thérèse, I have aunts, uncles and cousins who read my blog. I do have some family (my fifteen year old brother, for example) who think I'm crazy for blogging, but that's okay, I guess. :)
Haha, that feedback is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI think it might just be my parents who read my blog... when they get around to it. lol. Every so often my mom will ask about something and I'll say, "Yeah, I posted pictures of that on my blog," and she'll say, "Oh, maybe I should catch up on it sometime." Maybe I can lure them in with greater ease once I have lots of baby pictures to post? ;)
Hi, Tess's brother! And sister! :) My mom reads my blog every so often, and one of my aunts I know does for sure, but other than that, noooope. They think I'm weird and obsessive. But at least it's not drugs. ;)
ReplyDelete"At least it's not drugs"—HAAAA. Best line ever. I'm using that next time they make fun of me for blogging. :P
DeleteI've actually stopped myself from getting super involved with my blog because of schedule and family. I have a feeling my aunts would religiously read my blog. LOL I also tend to want to write about things to get them out of my head, but some of my observations are on situations that are personal and complex, and I'm not always sure how much is my story to share. I suppose I could talk to my family about it, but I'm not brave enough to put myself out there for all the internet to see. I love reading about your life and family though! :)
ReplyDeleteOooh, that's so tricky. There can be such a fine balancing act between writing about yourself and writing things that might be upsetting or too personal to family/friends. Good luck with the balancing act!! And thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying it!
DeleteOne of my sisters reads my blog occasionally, but otherwise I'm not sure anyone else in my family knows my blog exists. Since getting all of my siblings to write letters regularly is like pulling teeth, I tried to start a group blog when a couple of us moved away to other states, thinking that the relative ease of blogging would encourage them to write more, but still...crickets. I really think it depends on what your personal mode of reading is...going through my blogroll is kind of the equivalent of my daily newspaper, but it's just not familiar or a habit for a lot of people.
ReplyDeleteHaha—"crickets." I like the idea of a group blog, but like you, I think I'd be the only sibling to keep up with it.
DeleteHi Tess's brother! My family doesn't know that I blog and I'm not sure how they would react...
ReplyDeleteI do not blog but I read lots of blogs. I enjoy reading them so much and often reference things that I have read on blogs in conversation. Sometimes I feel like I have to explain what a blog is, I get lots of blank stares. I have so often referenced Sarah at a Clover Lane to my sister and she just does not get how I could know so much about that family. For instance since I have a 9 year old nephew, I learn about books or toys that he might like from Sarah's blog. When I tell my sister that I'm looking at something for my nephew based on something I read on Sarah's blog she says you talk about her like you know her.
ReplyDeleteHaha your 12-year old brother sounds just like my 12-year old brother! Does he do the eye-rolls and drawn-our sarcasm too?!
ReplyDeleteOh you better believe it! ;)
DeleteAs far as I know, only my mom and my sisters and occasionally my dad read my blog. I share my posts on facebook, and I'm friends with aunts and cousins... no idea if they ever click and read and quite frankly I'm happy not knowing. Waaaayyyy too much mental pressure about what to say and what not to say if I thought they read it!
ReplyDeleteAs an occasional reader here, let me say hi to your brother! And hi to you, Tess--I enjoy getting to hear about your life as a newlywed, and I've been praying for safe delivery of your new baby. My family (both my husband and kids, and also extended family) read mine occasionally. Every so often one of my sisters will e-mail me, "I liked your post!" instead of commenting on it, and that makes me smile. My family is pretty private so I'm not as open as the "young generation" but I really like getting to read a slice of life from different perspectives, esp. in the Catholic blogosphere.
ReplyDeleteAww, my teenage little brother reads my blog too! Hi there, Tess' bro.
ReplyDeleteMy Mom and Mother-In-Law have both been known to read it, so sometimes I'm nervous about freaking them out. But my sister didn't gag when I wrote about NFP, so I take that as a good sign.
