Little victories

Oh the blog posts I have written in my head. Hundreds of them this past month. But finding the time to sit down and type them out (one-handed sometimes!) is harder than I expected. Mom bloggers, how do you do it?!

My earlier posts were a little too Debbie Downer, so I want you guys to know that after the first two weeks-ish, things have been going so well. These are a few of the things we've successfully done this past month. Woohoo for small victories!

When Frankie was two weeks old we successfully took him to a friend's gorgeous wedding in Indiana..

And dressed him in a bow tie, which he LOVED:

Ha.

Since the beginning, it seems so easy to go places when Frank is with me. We managed the two-hour drive twice in one day pretty easily. Meanwhile taking Frankie anywhere by myself is still kind of daunting!

We met up with lovely Ellie and her family, where the babies blissfully ignored each other...

While the moms spent 98% of the visit doing THIS:

Yay for nursing pals!

I wasn't allowed to drive after the c-section, but my health care provider finally gave me the green light to start driving when Frankie was two weeks old. I immediately hightailed it to a baby-wearing workshop so I could learn how to use my Moby:

Awwww yeah.

Going to that workshop was such a great decision. The moby has been a lifesaver this month. Frankie loves it, and with its help we're able to take little walks to the library and grocery store on the regular. One day I even did laundry! (If that doesn't sound impressive, know that our laundry room is down three flights of stairs.) I took a picture to commemorate the moment:

So proud. :p Oh yeah, and those are my pre-pregnancy jeans! Still pretty tight, but getting to put those babies on felt AWESOME.

When Frankie was three weeks old, we got to see my sweet little sister graduate from high school!

Frankie, once again, just loooooooved being there:

And despite spending 97% of the graduation dinner nursing Frankie upstairs, I had a good time too.

Everyone says Frankie looks like his uncle—personally, I hope my kid gets some of my brother's dapper style:

What else? Frankie went to two bridal showers this month, and a Memorial Day barbecue, and we met up for brunch with lovely friends:

And good news! I met up with a lactation consultant last week. I also got Ellie and another new-mom friend to join me, so we had a regular little breastfeeding party. It was pretty much the greatest. The consultant confirmed that my latch is fine but things are still ... toughening up... if you catch my drift. I have to say, the pain is a lot better than it was two weeks ago. I can't wait til it goes away completely!

Finally, I am obsessed with this song. I sing the refrain constantly. I can't tell you how much it defines this sweet time in my life as I learn to be a mom and get to know my little boy. I know I'm going to miss this, so I'm trying to soak it all up and really enjoy it.

I hear the little guy fussing so it's time to end this post. I can't wait to tell you guys about some of the other fun things going on these days. It's shaping up to be a great summer!

  1. The auditorium where your sister graduated looks suspiciously like the gymnasium of Assumption Grotto in Detroit. Eh?

Also, Trace Adkins rocks. That song reminds me of high school - some of the best years.

  3. I'm glad things are getting better! And the Moby is a game changer for productivity, I could occasionally figure out nursing with it and when I did that was wonderful!

  7. Wow, Tess! You guys have been amazingly active and on the go for the first month! I also wanted to say that I really, really appreciated the honesty in your previous posts. I wish I could've read those last year when Lucy was a newborn, because at the time I felt SO alone with regards to the struggles that no one had told me about--nursing, the baby never wanting to be put down EVER, and constantly being at the breast! :)
