We moved!

With the help of kind friends and Frank's dad, we packed up all our belongings and moved to Chicago this weekend.

^^Frank and his dad right before we started unloading. Good thing we didn't entirely fill this 16-foot truck!

^^We had to carry everything up these stairs. Yikes! But we got it done in less than two hours.

^^Right now, my apartment looks like this.

^^And this. We have a lot of work to do. But somehow this kind of work seems like fun. I couldn't be more excited to get started on unpacking. We are creating our first home!

^^My living room. Won't you come in and sit down? :)

^^Frank's dad remodeled an old TV stand to create these shelves for free. Now he is going to anchor them to our wall.

Can I just say I LOVE having a carpenter in the family? I don't know how we would have survived the move without his knowledge and expertise.

^^My family showed up after we finished unloading the truck. The little kids were absolutely thrilled to see our apartment. Joseph said it was bigger than he thought it would be. They can't wait to come visit us once we're moved in for real!

^^Caroline brought her dog Skippy ... of course. She hardly goes anywhere without him.

Skippy liked our apartment too. He liked it so much he left his mark on the bedroom floor ... if you know what I mean. (Fortunately it's a wood floor and it cleaned right up.) That was the day I made a rule: no dogs in our apartment!

Now I'm living with my family until the wedding, and having so much fun with my little siblings. I didn't realize how much I had missed them! While I will miss a lot of things about Virginia, my worries about the move have dissipated. We're starting the next, exciting new chapter in our lives, and it feels great.

  1. So glad your move went well! We just helped several friends move this weekend, so I was reminded again about how much work moving is.

Your place looks like it will be wonderful!

  5. EEEK! I am SO excited for you! I absolutely LOVED the feeling of moving into our first apartment. I lived there for a month on my own, the J lived there for 2 months on his own before we got married. It's been exactly 1 year since we moved out of our first home and as much as I was ready to leave, it was such a bittersweet day! Enjoy every moment of settling in! Oh and I am insanely jealous of your carpenter father-in-law-to-be! Those shelves are amazing!

  6. This is so exciting! I'm happy for you all! And your apartment looks like the perfect size. And yes! It's so great to have a carpenter in the family... my dad is one himself; he's always working around the house and I'm always learning from him.
