Children's Books are my Life

Here is one of the questions I ask people the most: "What was your favorite book when you were 10?" Some people are excited to answer. Most just go, "Why??"

Here's why: it tells me so much about the person. Every book you read shapes your soul, especially when you are little and your soul is unshaped and impressionable. St. Josemaria Escriva said that "Spiritual reading has made many saints." More to the point, reading has made many people who they are- saints or sinners.

So that is why I ask. I also can tell whether or not I will get along with a person based on their Favorite Books section on Facebook... seriously, it is fool-proof. But that is another story.

This is Paddington Station:
This picture doesn't at all do it justice. It is splendid, an example of magnificent engineering and construction. I loved it from the moment we first met on Saturday morning.

This is Paddington Bear:
His book series is adorable, one of my favorites when I was 5. I was so excited to run into him at Paddington Station, just like in the book.

What was your favorite book when you were 10?

Happy reading, The Book Girl

  2. I got the entire series of the "Little House" books by Laura Ingalls Wilder for my 8th birthday and I read them all over and over. I still have some parts almost memorized.

  4. Ooh what good ones! Roald Dahl is always classic.

Young Mom, I also got the Little House books when I was 8 and read them about a thousand times! Which was your favorite? I always liked These Happy Golden Years (I'm such a romantic) but they are all so good!

J, I'm so glad she sent you! A Little Princess and The Little Prince are my favorite children's books... what is it about diminutive royals? :)

  5. When I was younger my favorite was Little House in the Big Woods. I wanted to pour molasses onto snow and roast a pig's tail on a stick and collect wood chips for my Pa in my apron. Now my favorite is By the Shores of Silver Lake. :) Oh, and a favorite children's book I first read as an adult: The Wind in the Willows!
