Bucket List

I can never resist taking pictures of china. Pretty china patterns are a weakness of mine. Right up there with cupcakes, bookstores and flowers.

Studying abroad is good for one thing: putting life into perspective. You think a lot about who you are, what you've done, and what you want to do. (Or maybe that's just being 20.)

I'd never heard the term "bucket list" until the cheesy movie, but we all have a list of "Things to Do Someday." It's easy to fall into the habit of thinking in terms of "Someday." I do it all the time: Someday I will have a house with bright curtains, colorful walls, and old books covering anything that will stand still. I will grow daffodils in window boxes and have a vegetable garden. Someday I will have tea with my children every day at 4 o'clock and eat all my meals off pretty china plates.

Well, enough of that. The thing with bucket lists is that they don't get crossed off. How can I become the kind of wife and mother I want to be someday, if I am not the kind of woman I want to be now?

So starting next semester, I've scheduled tea with my best friend Laura every Tuesday and Thursday at 4 pm. I'm starting to purchase (what I hope will become) a gorgeous china collection. My collection of books is already legendary. Enough of "someday." I'll live the life of my dreams, today.

I make new life resolutions on a monthly (daily?) basis, but I sure hope this one sticks.
Someday I'll live at Cambridge, because it looks like this in the springtime. Ok, ok, maybe that one really will have to wait.

  1. Sounds pretty balanced to me! But I hope you keep adding to your wish list. The practical people in my life tease me when I talk about what I'd like to do or where I'd like to go--someday. But it's amazing how many of my dreams I've really fulfilled. And I continue to add to that list. Who knows? Maybe I'll keep fulfilling those dreams!

I'm glad you're enjoying your semester abroad so much.

  2. Sassy, keep reaching for the stars. It's the stuff life is made of.
