My first giveaway!

I'm so excited—I've been looking forward to this for ages. Today I'm hosting my first blog giveaway!

I received a copy of Haley and Daniel's fantastic cookbook, Feast!, for Christmas. Actually, I got two copies—I told so many people I wanted the book for Christmas that both my dad and Frank bought it for me. Whoops. :p

After I tried for months to figure out what to do with the extra copy (return it? Donate it? Give it to a friend?), Frank suggested the perfect solution: "Why don't you do a blog giveaway?" We thought the folks who read my blog would be the sort of people who are interested in a family-centered cookbook themed around the liturgical year. And besides, I've enjoyed this book so much I want to share the love!

Would you like a copy of Feast? Tell me your favorite holiday, feast day, or family tradition in the comments, and I'll randomly pick a winner. Contest will close Monday.

Best of luck!!

*Oh, and obviously this is not a sponsored post—just figured I'd make that clear!

  1. I've been waiting for an opportunity to get this! My favorite holiday/feast day would have to be Easter. :) We attend the Triduum as a family, and on Easter Sunday, we have a get together with my mom's brothers and sisters and their families (she has 13 sibs). On Holy Saturday, we make Julia Child's boeuf bourguignon for dinner on Easter. :)

  2. I've been eyeing off this book! So, random comment selector: my favourite family tradition was very simple but beautiful. On Christmas Eve, with the house in darkness except for Christmas lights and a few candles, we would place the baby Jesus in the crib in the nativity scene, which had been waiting for Him during Advent. And then we would sit in the peace and quiet and take in the tree and the nativity and the stillness of the night. We weren't very liturgical, so this was a special moment.

(If I'm randomly selected, I'll pay postage to Aus!)

  4. Hi! I'm a new reader. And of course I'm super lame and comment for the first time on a giveaway :( I will comment more going forward, promise!

I'm a single girl convert, so I don't have any traditions with my family...praying for some day! Easter is my favorite holiday because it's when I became Catholic. More specifically, I love Easter Vigil because of all the memories it brings back for me!

  5. Midnight Mass for Christmas has become a recent favorite of mine. We've started a tradition in my family that comes from my husband's family :) After Christmas midnight mass in all it's lights, beauty, wonder and glory, we gather at someone's house for bread, cheese and wine and mead. And at some point, someone reads a poem by Hilaire Belloc that goes (All in good fun of course :) ) :
    "Noel! Noel! Noel! Noel!
A Catholic tale I Have to tell!
And a Christian song I have to sing
While all the bells in Arundel ring.

I pray good beef and I pray good beer
This holy night of all the year,
But I pray detestable drink for them
That give no honour to Bethlehem.

May all good fellows that here agree
Drink Audit Ale in heaven with me,
And may all my enemies go to hell!
    Noel! Noel! Noel! Noel!
May all my enemies go to hell!
    Noel! Noel!!"

  6. My favorite holiday would have to be Easter. Some of our family traditions include Easter Vigil Mass and then Easter baskets on Sunday morning. Since I can remember our Easter celebrations have included 'cascarones', or hallowed out eggs which we fill with confetti and/or flour and then crack on one another's heads!

I love Catholic/Liturgical year inspired cookbooks and have been eyeing this one for quite some time. Thank you for the opportunity!

  7. I am a brand new convert (as of Easter 2014), and my husband, a revert, never had much of a domestic church growing up. So we are both new to celebrating the liturgical year at home, and very excited to share the beauty of the Church's traditions with our son (2 years old).

Our favorite family tradition is to make Russian and Ukranian Easter eggs (pysanky). We've done that for years, even before we came more active in church. We love the symbolism of the colors and images.

Love your blog and your little boy!

  9. I'm also a single girl convert sans family traditions (for now). My favorite holiday is Easter. Or February 21st, because that's when I converted.

  10. Oh I've been wanting to read this book, please do a review for it.

Also for ever my favorite holiday has been Christmas and have loved going to midnight mass. But this past year I think St. Joseph's Day became my favorite because I got share Zepolies and the concept of Saints' Days with my husband who was not raised with religion.

  11. Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. I love how food brings people together. I would love to be able to use food to do the same thing throughout the Liturgical year!
