New and Improved

Yesterday was a red-letter day for me... I got THREE comments on a post! That's never happened to me before and I was so excited that I launched a whole blog redesign on the spot. Well actually the redesign has a lot more to do with procrastinating on my two papers, but I was still thrilled by the comments and I hope you like the results of my procrastination. I added a "Great Books for Girls" list and a section for my favorite books, getting back to the "book smart" theme. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or corrections to my lists.

Last night and today I've been finishing up a paper for Theology class on St. John of the Cross, St. Therese of Lisieux, and the fruits of spiritual marriage in the Carmelite mystic tradition. It's been interesting and I love the Carmelites but I'm about ready to be done.

I lunched today with Sam, Dan, Lillian, Shannon and Blair... halfway through the meal, Lillian dropped yogurt on herself, so we all started laughing at her and she retaliated with handfuls of cornflakes thrown at us.  Next thing you know, I'm shooting peas at Dan, Blair's chucking cheese at Shannon and Sam has dunked a handful of cereal in Blair's coke. It was my first real food fight (I guess I had a deprived childhood?) and it was hilarious. Now I've got a little more paper-polishing to do, plus laundry... oh joy. Once that's done, tonight we're playing Duck Hunt over in Sam and Dan's room. It's a video game about shooting ducks. I'm not entirely sure what the appeal is but it should be a good time.

Don't forget to take part in my book club over Christmas break! I'm really excited about it and I hope you are too. Just one more day until vacation!

Addendum: I'm going to review A Severe Mercy first, probably some time next week. It's a pretty quick read if you haven't started it yet. After that will be Captivating and then The Privilege of Being A Woman. Story of a Soul will probably be last. Thanks for asking, Vanessa!

I've asked a few of my friends to write "guest post" book reviews on books we both love. If you're interested in reviewing a book, let me know and I'll be happy to reserve a post for you.

  1. Question: What book are we reading/ discussing first?

  2. Oh, and I just went through and read your book list. I was pleasantly surprised to see I owned, or had at least read, most of the ones you had posted. Seeing all the titles you listed was as if I was experiencing my childhood all over again! :)

P.S. I love "A Song for Summer" by Eva Ibbotson.

P.P.S And also, did you ever read "An Old-Fashioned Girl" by Louisa May Alcott? Love, love, love this book!

  3. Third comment!!

It was cereal, not potato chips. But that's ok.

  4. Sam, I fixed it. Better?

Vanessa I'm so glad you also know Eva Ibbotson!! Did you ever read her hilarious children's books? Highly recommended! I read "An Old-Fashioned Girl" so long ago that I don't really remember it... maybe it's time for a re-read. ;)

  6. Mary, I'm so glad you liked it! I'm about half way done and I love it already. What a beautiful, different way to look at femininity. That's awesome that your book club read it - are there other ND grads in it?
